What to see in Melaka?

It's historical, cultural and natural attraction you can see the old structures built for may years. Just a 2 hour bus ride from Kuala Lumpur, it's part of our DIY itinerary and spent the whole day touring the place, not quite expensive but in return exploring and learning is a good investment indeed. 

Here are some of the places we've visited.

A' FAMOSA MELAKA
One of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia

ST. PAUL'S HILL
Was originally called Malacca Hill, built in 1521
( only the walls left standing)

CHRIST CHURCH
Oldest functioning protestant church in Malaysia. One of the famous place in Melaka

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CHURCH
Church was built in 1849 and dedicated to St. Francis Xavier
It's a neo-gothic structure was built on the site of an old ruined Portuguese church.

QUEEN VICTORIA'S FOUNTAIN

Built in 1904 by the British and it was dedicated to Queen Victoria. A century old fountain.

FLORA DE LA MAR MARITIME MUSEUM

To get an access to this ship, buy a ticket at the booth below the ship. Displays are though interesting, and Magellan history stories are also here. It was a detailed explanations of Melaka's maritime history, informative and attractive as well.

JONKER STREET

The famous Jonker Street, it's not like an ordinary flea market, it was definitely different. The place are varied from clothing shops, souvenirs, antiques shops and traditional foods. You can find good buys, when i say good buys cheap ones, for "pasalubongs". 

 The buildings and places still remain historic, it was a fulfillment knowing the history of Melaka.

Conquering Borneo

KOTA KINABALU, SABAH MALAYSIA













  
Our trip in Kota Kinabalu is more on island hopping, there are five islands which made up this popular marine park known as the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. The five islands are Pulau Gaya, Pulau Sapi, Pulau Manukan, Pulau Mamutik and Pulau Sulug. The largest is Pulau Gaya, but the most popular is Pulau Manukan. But what i love most, is the SAPI island, powdery sand, bluish to greenish water, and you can see the fishes closes to the shore.

Jesselton Point

Here is jesselton point there are various of travel agencies to choose and by the way some of them can speak tagalog. 

 I forked out RM34 for the ticket that's 2 islands and RM6 for the tariff fee that will take you to the islands of your choice, And don't forget to rent vest and snorkel for your island adventure.

PULAU MANUKAN

                                                                  

Other side of Pulau Manukan

  The second largest island in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, it was too commercialized. You can still go snorkeling but far away from the beaches. But do explore the island till the edge of it, you will still find beautiful spots on the island itself. 

PULAU MAMUTIK
Smallest island spot for swimming and diving. Though for experience snorkeling was a bit disappointing because some corals are destroyed you can even see pieces of broken corals. But try venturing out there's plenty of fishes to see. 

PULAU SAPI

Loving the view of Sapi Island, greenish to turquoise color, clarity of the water, and powdery sand.  This is one of my favorite island in Sabah, a place for relaxing. 

MT. KINABALU ( look at that formation of rock and pointed landscape) How high can you climb there? 

 






For our third day we went to Mount Kinabalu is the main attraction in Kinabalu Park, which is less than 2 hours’ drive from Kota Kinabalu. The road cuts and cold winds through lush countryside dotted with traditional village houses to give you an unforgettable scenic journey. Though we did'nt climb, but we did a short trail. There is no climbing experience needed to conquer the peak of Borneo, but hey, you should be attending some briefing session before climbing here. Watching sunrise at the top has been described by travelers everywhere as a life-enriching experience.

ATKINSON CLOCK TOWER

Not just the beaches and mountains are here in sabah, the living heritage of Kota Kinabalu which is the Atkinson Clock Tower oldest standing structure, when we went here last may 2012 they did some major renovation and repair. They need this clock to be maintained and  repaired

Do u know the history of jesselton hotel? i don't know either. But, i did some research and happen to know just now while browsing some of the reviews about this hotel.  This hotel was not originally on its location, the original location was near the clock tower which is the atkinson.  see more blog reviews. Part of my travel is to know the culture, meeting new people, and explore new things. I can't get over with this old town coffee, the largest kopitiam restaurant chain in malaysia, i just so love their white coffee with selections of flavors. I've been to 3 cities of malaysia, old town is all over the city of malaysia.
